1. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

The Terminator series made Schwarzenegger a global icon, and this is considered as the best of the franchise. It was the highest grossing film of 1991, earning nearly $205 million at the box-office. In this movie, Schwarzenegger reprises his role as a cyborg assassin tasked to protect John Connor against a more advanced Terminator who is bent on preventing Connor from becoming the leader of the human resistance in the year 2029. The film was directed by James Cameron and came out seven years after the first Terminator movie.

2. The Terminator 1 (1984)

The first Terminator movie had Schwarzenegger playing the role of the cyborg assassin who was sent from the year 2029 to 1984 to kill the character played by Linda Hamilton, Sarah Connor. Connor’s son was to become mankind’s savior against machines in a post-apocalyptic future. It was a surprise hit at the box office, taking in $78 million on a budget of just $6 million.

3. Predator (1987)

Despite being slammed by critics for its thin plot, Predator was a huge hit as it earned $98 million. In this movie, Schwarzenegger plays the role of the leader of a special forces team tasked to rescue hostages from a guerilla territory in Central America. Because of its performance at the box office, the movie had two sequels.

4. The Long Goodbye (1973)

This was the second movie appearance of Schwarzenegger, where he played the role of a deaf-mute hitman. His appearance in the film however, was not credited.

5. Total Recall (1990)

An action and sci-fi movie directed by Paul Verhoeven, Total Recall earned more than $119 million. It also stars Sharon Stone, Rachel Ticotin, and Ronny Cox. It was one of the most expensive films made during its time, with a budget of $65 million. The story revolves around a construction worker who has recurring dreams about the planet Mars and a woman on the said planet.

6. True Lies (1994)

Directed by Cameron, this was the first movie to have a production budget of more than $100 million. Schwarzenegger plays the role of a fearless and terrorist-battling secret agent who discovers that his wife was having an affair with a sales agent. Jamie Lee Curtis and Tom Arnold also star in his flick which was a huge hit earning more than $378 million worldwide.

7. Terminator Genisys (2015)

This is the fifth installment of the Terminator franchise and also marks Schwarzenegger’s return to the big screen as the eponymous character. While this was slammed by critics for the unsatisfactory performance of its cast, the movie was still a huge hit at the box office earning more than $300 million. This is intended to be the first movie of a trilogy, with two other films to be released in 2017 and 2018.

In this movie, the former California governor is a reprogrammed Terminator who was sent back in time to protect Sarah Connor as a little girl. He eventually becomes a father figure for Sarah.

8. Conan the Barbarian (1982)

This fantasy film written and directed by John Milius is based on the stories of the eponymous character of Robert E. Howard, a pulp fiction writer in the 1930s. Schwarzenegger plays the role of a young barbarian who seeks revenge for the death of his parents at the hands of a snake cult leader. It was a huge hit and basically launched the career of the young Schwarzenegger as a legit action star. It earned more than $100 million.

9. Escape Plan (2013)

Schwarzenegger teams up with another Hollywood legend, Sylvester Stallone, in this movie about a structural engineer and his inmate attempting to break out of the most secure prison in the world. It was a huge flop in the United States, earning only $25 million but earned around $112 million worldwide bringing its total gross to $137 million.

10. The Expendables 2 (2012)

This is another movie which stars Stallone and an ensemble cast of action stars like Jason Statham, Jet Li, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Schwarzenegger himself. The movie grossed more than $320 million worldwide although it was slammed by a lot ocritics.

Arnold Schwarzenegger movies may be mostly of the action genre, but there is no denying that the man has entertained a lot of moviegoers for the past 20 plus years.
