1. Pulp Fiction (1994)

Jackson became globally recognized for his role in the Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction. He plays the role of Jules Winnfield, a hitman who with his buddy Vincent Vega (played by John Travolta) goes out to retrieve a suitcase stolen from their employer. He received a best supporting actor nomination from the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. The movie was not only critically acclaimed but also a smashing commercial success as it took in around $230 million at the box office.

2. Django Unchained (2012)

Jackson appears in this movie also directed by Tarantino. Jamie Foxx plays the lead role of Django, a freed slave who sets out to rescue his wife from a notorious Mississippi plantation owner played by Leonardo DiCaprio with the help of a German bounty hunter played by Christoph Waltz.

Like Pulp Fiction this movie was both a commercial and critical success. Waltz won numerous best supporting actor awards, including from the Academy. Tarantino was also cited for writing the screenplay. With a worldwide gross of more than $425 million, this is the highest grossing movie of the said director.

3. Inglorious Basterds (2009)

Jackson once again works with Tarantino in this Brad Pitt starrer, this time as the narrator in the film. The movie is about two plots to kill a Nazi Germany leader, one planned by a French Jewish cinema owner and another by a group of Jewish American soldiers.

The movie was a smashing success, earning more than $320 million versus a $70 million production budget.

4. The Avengers (2012)

In 2001, Samuel L. Jackson agreed to have Marvel Comics design the character of Nick Fury after his likeness. Since 2008, he has been appearing in various Marvel films as the said character. One of those movies is The Avengers, which is about a group of superheroes who have to join forces to save the planet from destruction. The Avengers was the biggest hit of 2012, with a worldwide gross of more than $1.5 billion.

5. Jurassic Park (1993)

Jackson is no stranger to appearing in blockbuster movies. He appeared in this 1993 hit flick about a wildlife park of cloned dinosaurs. This was once the highest grossing film of all time with a worldwide gross of $1.029 billion.

6. The Incredibles (2004)

Jackson lends his voice in this 2004 animated film from Pixar. He voices the character of the superhero Frozone, who can create ice out of the humidity from the air. The movie earned around $600 million worldwide.

7. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury in the third installment of the popular movie series. In the movie, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) and Bruce Banner (played by Mark Ruffalo) attempt to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program. But things go awry so the Avengers have to stop the program called Ultron from destroying the planet.

The movie was a resounding success at the box office taking home around $1.3 billion worldwide.

8. Iron Man (2008)

Jackson again appears as Nick Fury in this movie about billionaire inventor, philanthropist and playboy Tony Stark, who creates a weaponized suit to battle evil. Iron Man made a killing in the box office with more than $580 million in gross, paving the way for a highly successful trilogy.

9. Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)

This spy action comedy film is based on the comic book The Secret Service. It was co-written and directed by Matthew Vaughn. It tells the story of a secret agent, Gary Unwin, played by Taron Egerton. Unwin joins a secret spy organization and is assigned to thwart the plans of a wealthy eco-terrorist Richmond Valentine, played by Jackson.

The movie also stars Colin Firth, Michael Caine, and Mark Strong. This British film has grossed more than $400 million worldwide making it the most successful movie of Vaughn.

10. Captain America: Winter Soldier

Jackson again appears as Nick Fury in this Marvel movie, but this time with a longer screen time than in previous Marvel flicks. Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America who struggles fitting in the modern world. He also has to team up with another super soldier to battle the assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

This is one of the most successful Samuel L. Jackson movies of all time as it went on to gross more than $714 million at the box office versus its production budget of $170 million.
