Worlds Most Disliked Movie Trailers

You Voted – Here Are The World’s Worst Movie Trailers

[mashshare]

We were having a conversation the other day about just how badly the latest Ghostbusters trailer is hammered on Youtube. A closer look led us to discovering this page on Wikipedia – The Most Disliked Videos on Youtube.

With more than 1.05 million dislikes, Ghostbusters comes in the 8th position on the worst ratio of likes to dislikes rankings, of all time and of all videos.

Just like you, we love movies, and our curiosity got the best of us. So we searched. We searched for the most disliked movie trailers of all time. But we couldn’t find anything.

The hunt was on.

Our mission was to create the list of the most disliked movie trailers of all time.

And we think we’ve done it.

Before we dive in – HUGE shoutout to Jhonti over at SortByDislikes.com and Steve Hoffing at shoffing.com – this wouldn’t have been possible without your tools. Thank you.

Brace yourself – you’re about to witness the Internet’s most disliked movie trailers as of June 2017. Here they are:

*Budgets have been estimated for these movies.

Damn. You guys really aren’t keen on the Emoji trailer, are you? More than double the number of dislikes per thousand views than the next on the list.

To be far, the whole concept of the movie is based on pure sensationalism. It seems like the studio (Sony Pictures) know exactly what they’re doing, and know the hate will bring in cash no matter what.

We’ll just have to wait until the 28th July to find out how it goes in the box office.

Speaking of box office, let’s see how the rest have turned out. *The two outliers (Saving Christmas and God’s Not Dead) have been removed.

Notice anything odd?

Ghostbusters, Snatched, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Norm of the North are the only 4 movies out of the 23 total to bring in a profit.

Of course, we couldn’t let this unanswered anomaly go unanswered. Before we explain the cause – can you spot the common denominator?

What movies do these 4 have in common which all others fail to have?

Large studio backing

  • Ghostbusters – Sony Pictures
  • Norm of the North – Lionsgate
  • Snatched – 20th Century Fox
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid – 20th Century Fox

Keep in mind, though, that just because the total box office revenue is higher than the production budget, doesn’t mean they came out with a total net profit.

The production budget fails to include one thing which these movies likely had plenty of – advertising.

Unfortunately, without the advertising costs incurred by each of these movies, we’ll never truly know if they turned a profit or not.

Moving on!

Another way of visualizing the dislike ratio. Still pretty cool!

Conclusion

A large portion of movie who’s trailers are widely disliked on Youtube, end up failing to make a profit.

Maybe it’s a good idea for the studios to produce the trailer as quick as possible – then scrap the movie if it’s downvoted into oblivion. That’s a question above our paygrade.

Lastly, we’ve put together a nice little infographic from the above info. Feel free to share it with that one friend you know loves movie trailers. You know who we’re talking about. Yep – them.

We’d greatly appreciate it 🙂
